Next, check near the indoor unit for a float switch in drain and if you have one lift it to see if we get power to thermostat. Ok you have a wiring issue between the unit and the thermostat. The RED wire is the 24 volt wire so that would be the one that is likely grounded somewhere. You could go to the store and get a new thermostat cable. Take a short whip and connect the new cable to the unit and the thermostat and see.
